One of the more interesting and beautiful Psalms of David is Psalm 8, but there is something here, like all scripture, no matter how many times I read a chapter or a verse I almost always find some new truth. This time it is revealing of Man's place and if you will bear with me, I will show you what was revealed to me.
In verse 5 we read: For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Now, the word angels in this verse was translated from the word 'elohiym (el-o-heem'). The interesting thing about this is the translation of the word 'elohiym (el-o-heem'). In the Old Testament it is translated as “angels” only once, in Psalm 8. It is translated as “God” 2,346 times and “god” 244 times in other places.
So what can we presume? Were the translator(s) scared to use the most commonly accepted meaning and translation? The Spirit tells me so. So let’s look at some other scriptures to see what we will see. Starting in Genesis with the story of Man’s creation on the 6th day: Genesis 1:26-27 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: ……… So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Now the key verse is in Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Did you see it? “Breathed into his nostrils the breath of life”…and only then did “Man became a living soul.” Now, some will argue that this proves nothing. Well, God created all the creatures and they still live today, but God did NOT breathe into them the breathe of life. Are we different? By leaps and bounds, we have a soul given to us by God and we are His children.
Also consider Revelations 22:8-9, Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things. Then he said to me, "See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God." Here an angel states categorically, in no uncertain terms that the Angels are your fellow servant.
For those who still doubt, all I ask is that you go to the scriptures and find for me a place where an angel commands a descendant of Adam to do anything. Although I have not committed all of the Bible to memory, I know of no such passage. The angels delivered messages from God, but never, ever commanded anyone of their (angels) own will.
Angels are messengers of God and their revealed purpose is to Worship God and to be His messengers. Our revealed purpose is to Love, Praise and Worship God as His sons and daughters.
Ps 8:1 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
Ps 8:2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
Ps 8:3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
Ps 8:4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
Ps 8:5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
Ps 8:6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
Ps 8:7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
Ps 8:8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
Ps 8:9 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
Ge 1:26-27 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Ge 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Re 22:8 Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things.
Re 22:9 Then he said to me, "See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God."
